Pacu Fishing in Hua Hin

In Thailand, there are two popular varieties of this introduced Amazon predator and we have them both. The Black Pacu (Pla Jaramet Dum) that will reach 40kg, and the Tambaqui or Red Bellied Pacu (Pla Jaramet Daeng) that will reach 25kg.

These are predatory fish that will eat almost anything!  Direct relatives of the Piranha - only much bigger!. An extremely fast swimming and good fighting fish that will truly test you if using light tackle. We stocked a total of 250 and they are now reaching 9+ kg regularly. We KNOW that they are much bigger. Specimens approaching the size of dustbin - lids have been observed just prior to them biting through the trace and getting away! Size - maybe 14-15kg - who knows?

Beware, Pacu have VERY sharp teeth. In their natural habitat of the River Amazon, they are used to crack Brazil Nuts. So just imagine what could be done to your finger!

We catch them regularly at Hua Hin Fishing Lodge, on baits that have included bread, sweetcorn, hot dogs, grasshoppers and banana. They will take lures and have even been successfully caught on fly tackle. The larger specimens resident in the bottom pond regularly take chicken, prawn, pork and other 'flesh' baits.

These Amazonian thrillers are truly great fighting fish.

Just some of the Pacu that have given our customers some thrills.

Why not try catching one yourself?
